The deepest recession since the financial crisis of 2008 is now all but unavoidable. The economic dynamics at all levels from macro to companies to individuals are to be profoundly affected. It is imperative to start thinking about the economic and financial impact to our societies and businesses as well as us personally. Just as important is developing the views and contemplating the actions needed to respond to the fundamental changes that we are all facing. Financial Leadership in the Current Crisis provides an analysis and discussion of how we can better prepare for the resulting threats -- and, perhaps, identify new opportunities.
Before joining academia, Terence worked in mergers and acquisitions at Schroders, Citibank and Lazard Brothers in Montréal and New York. He also worked in London as a consultant at Ernst & Young focusing on UK financial services. Additionally, as an independent consultant, he advised Shell International, F&C Asset Management, Alliance Boots, Alitalia as well as a Cambridge University-based biotech start-up. In addition to frequent appearance in academic publications, Terence is featured on the Harvard Business Review Italia discussing competitiveness, the Greek edition of The Economist covering the debt crisis and The Guardian on the subject of youth unemployment. He is currently Head of Competitiveness Studies at i7 Institute for Innovation and Competitiveness by ESCP Europe, an academic think-tank based in Paris and London. Terence was also featured in May 2013 as “Professor of the week” by the Financial Times for the FT Lexicon.
Topic 5: Action in Uncertain Times
Lecturer: Anthony J. Evans, PhD

Periods of heightened uncertainty can be stressful and hard to navigate. This course looks at some simple models of decision making to provide guidance on how to cope. We will consider which heuristics lead to better decision making and use scenario planning tools to confront the future as it emerges. We may not be able to predict what is going to happen, but we can understand the potential impact and plan accordingly.
His research interests are corporate entrepreneurship, monetary theory and transitional markets. He has published in journals such as Eastern European Economics, Constitutional Political Economy and The Review of Austrian Economics, and his co-authored book “The Neoliberal Revolution in Eastern Europe: Economic Ideas in the Transition from Communism” was published in 2009 by Edward Elgar. He has authored policy papers for the Conservative Party, European Investment Fund, Financial Reporting Council and the Competition Commission on a range of market-process issues, and has conducted applied research projects with a number of corporate sponsors. Evans received his MA and Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University, USA, and a BA (Hons) from the University of Liverpool, UK.
