The Greatest Professional Growth Begins with Self-Development

“I still have mentors I learn from, and the program gave me the courage to teach, share knowledge, and simplify complex topics for others. The EMBA was a catalyst for my growth - professionally, personally, and interpersonally.”

Ivana Šuto, Director of Controlling at Styria Croatia, reflects on her EMBA journey at COTRUGLI Business School with a smile and clarity. When asked if the EMBA impacted her career, she admits, “Yes, absolutely.” Although she already had a solid understanding of company functions before the EMBA, the program gave her additional insights into areas outside her expertise, such as marketing and sales. “The first part of the program provided great insights, but what influenced me the most was the second part, where I truly started working on myself.”

From Expertise to Personal Growth

Ivana emphasizes that the EMBA was a turning point in her personal development, especially ten years ago when she began to recognize the importance of soft skills alongside technical knowledge. “It was an opportunity to become aware of my abilities, understand where I could grow, and realize how much I could contribute in different situations. The program taught me how to work in groups with people I didn’t choose, who had different perspectives and methods, and to make the best out of the situation. That was an incredible experience.”

People as the Core Value of the Experience

For Ivana, the most significant memories are not just the lectures and group work but the people she met. “Networking is important, but what you truly gain are the people with whom you form real connections, friendships that last. We still meet at least two or three times a year, and I feel like I know them as if we were sitting in the classroom together just yesterday.” While business collaboration wasn’t the primary focus, the relationships and friendships she built are among the greatest treasures of her EMBA experience.

Throughout her career, Ivana has had many mentors, but she highlights specific moments. “My first real mentor was a colleague who gave me honest feedback about how I communicate. She told me that while I spoke intelligently, the way I delivered it wasn’t effective – and that was the beginning of my development in communication and leadership.” Later, through other mentors, she learned entrepreneurial courage and how to apply an entrepreneurial mindset within a corporate environment. “Today, I conduct internal training sessions in the company to help people understand how their decisions impact results. It’s my little Mini MBA for colleagues.”

Confidence as a Lasting Outcome

Ivana also highlights how the EMBA program boosted her self-assessment and confidence. “I discovered how much I can do, how much I know, and how I can prove myself in a group. That’s one of the values that shaped me as a professional and as a person.”

When thinking about future generations of MBA participants, Ivana views the program with a new perspective and deep gratitude for the experience that opened new horizons for her. “I still have mentors I learn from, and the program gave me the courage to teach, share knowledge, and simplify complex topics for others. The EMBA was a catalyst for my growth – professionally, personally, and interpersonally.”
