Ivana’s background is in strategic risk management, which gave her insight into banking and the economy on both macro and micro levels. Still, she felt the need to expand.
To deepen her business knowledge and leadership skills, she enrolled in the COTRUGLI MBA in 2013. This decision marked the start of a journey that transformed her thinking, leadership style, and career outlook.

Today, Ivana leads the Quantitative Research Department at Erste Bank. Her team works on data science applications that support business process optimization and risk management. Their goal is to define the optimal risk level the bank can take without endangering its sustainability.
This role requires constant collaboration with teams across the bank. It also demands adaptability, compromise, and resilience in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Leading People, Not Just Projects
Stepping into this leadership role wasn’t easy. “Technical skills were just one part of the job,” she notes. “The real challenge was managing people—especially top talent with strong personalities and opinions.”
Every day brings new negotiations, decisions, and team dynamics. “The MBA gave me the tools to handle this,” Ivana says. “I learned how to motivate others, manage expectations, and reach goals—even if the path isn’t perfect.”
One lesson stands out: “You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.” Ivana embraces this mindset as a reminder that progress sometimes involves risk, failure, or uncomfortable change.
