Hackathon: Artificial Intelligence for Social Innovation

Impact Hub Ljubljana, Noordung Center, Kovačnica, Hashnet, Technology Park Ljubljana, Dravinjski Business Club, and Cotrugli Business School—invite high school students, university students, and young innovators who want to use their AI skills to tackle societal challenges. Throughout the process, participants will be supported by experienced mentors who will help them develop their solutions.

What does it offer?

The hackathon offers a unique opportunity for innovation, growth, and creation with artificial intelligence. Participants can form teams of up to four members to address current social and business challenges collaboratively. Additionally, they will have the chance to connect with leading industry mentors, enhancing their knowledge and expanding their network. The hackathon also opens doors for partnerships that could lead to lasting social impact.

The PRIZE

The prize pool of EUR 8,000 includes EUR 2,000 in cash prizes and EUR 6,000 in practical awards, supporting the winners in furthering their professional journeys.

Participants will choose from six challenges in environment, healthcare, tourism, and business processes. The challenges are based on real-world business and social problems that companies and organizations face, and they aim to develop solutions with long-term, sustainable impact.

Prizes include cash awards and various forms of support, such as free mentoring, coworking space, and access to advanced tech labs. Prizes include:

  • EUR 2,000 in cash prizes awarded by Dravinjski Business Club.
  • EUR 2,200 in free space rental at Kovačnica and Impact Hub Ljubljana.
  • EUR 2,500 in free mentorship for business idea development and networking, provided by Technology Park Ljubljana and Noordung Center.
  • EUR 1,200 in 20 hours of free access to 3D and VR/AR labs at Technology Park Ljubljana.
  • EUR 600 in vouchers for visits and experiences at Noordung Center.

THE KEY DATES

The hackathon officially began on October 14, 2024, with applications opening.

The team registration deadline is approaching on November 5, 2024, after which the challenges will be further detailed in an online event on November 13, 2024. Between November 13 and 25, teams will develop their solutions with mentor support, and the project submission deadline is November 25, 2024. The final event, featuring solution presentations, will take place on November 27, 2024, at Impact Hub Ljubljana.

Challenges include:

  • Using AI to develop sustainable tourism products or services (cash prize EUR 1,000 sponsored by Dravinjski Business Club).
  • Using AI for sustainable business operations (cash prize EUR 1,000 sponsored by Dravinjski Business Club).
  • AI-supported self-hosting solution for coworking spaces.
  • Using AI for packaging tracking and promoting recycling.
  • Using AI to analyze satellite data for monitoring climate change.
  • Using AI for therapeutic and healthcare purposes.

The challenges will be further explained during the online event on November 13. At this event, teams will gain insight into real business and social issues, enabling them to begin work on their solutions.
